Tiberias was the last residence of the Sanhedrin, and it
was considered to be one of the four holy cities of the Jews in the
Land of Israel. According to Yossef Ben-Matityahu, Tiberias was located "close to the finest parts of the Galilee. So far excavations discovered the city gates, a basilica, bathhouses, a harbor and some residential houses. |
