| Magdala (Tarichaea) |
|   |
Place of origin of Maria Magdalena, who turned up as a symbol of devotion to Jesus
and his teachings, after being cured by him as
he expelled 7 devils out of her. As a reward for her devotion, Maria Magdalena
was privileged to be present at the scene of the resurrection.
In the Byzantine period a church in her honor was erected at Magdala, but in the
course of time it was ruined. Nowadays the place is owned by the Franciscan
order. Excavations carried out there unveiled the remains of an ancient
monastery, a pretty mosaic depicting a sail boat and remains of various
buildings.
