| Dir Aziz |
|   |
The ruins of Dir-Aziz, an ancient Jewish village, are
close to the "moshav" Kanaf. The synagogue discovered there is a
building of imposing size and beauty. The main opening of the synagogue is
directed westward. In the central room only two columns, reaching up to the
second floor, were preserved.
The synagogue was apparently built in the 6th century and stood
erect until 750 C.E., when the entire Jewish settlement was ruined in the great
earthquake, to be rehabilitated 1230 years later in the near-by moshav – Kanaf.
