| Beith Saida |
|   |
Originally a small fishermen's village, situated near the mouth of the river Jordan,
the rank of city (polis) was bestowed on it by Herod Philip, the ruler of the
Gaulanites. Here from came the first disciples of Jesus, Simon (Peter) and
Andrew, sons of Jonah and James and John, sons of Zebedee.
Jesus arrived in Bethsaida during his travel about the northwestern shore of the lake
(so called the Evangelical Triangle), which was the field of his activity at that time, and
there he performed some of his miracles.
